1982 Gold Sample from Engelhard Refinery

1982 - Gold from Engelhard Refinery

This batch was signed off at 11,200 lbs of low gold content computer scrap. If the note on the back was correct, it consisting of 190 units. It was smelted to a homogenous melt for the buyer at the engelhard Refinery in 1982. Normally three samples of the smelt are taken and sealed, this was no exception. One sample goes to the buyer of the resulting smelt for further refinement. A second sample goes to an assayer of the sellers choice. The third sample is held as a tiebreaker if the assayers representing the buyer and seller disagree on content and purity. By the way the looser pays the third assayers bill.

To put this in perspective the 2075 CPU at NASA was 153 units. Including I/O is estimated to be just about 190 units. That works out to be between $35k and $40k in Gold from that one big system at a mean price of $500 per ounce.
